We are taking Alyne to the next stage of our growth - and a world class team is the key to our success in this next phase. Today I would like to provide you with some insights about what it's like to work for Alyne, what values we set ourselves and what environment my co-founders and I want to work in.
This is a topic that we have spent a considerable amount of time thinking about before we even founded Alyne. We were all working in great jobs before founding Alyne, so making the move from this relative comfort needed to have a very clear upside. For us, creating a work environment that we love coming to every day is a key aspect of that. We also know that it's reasonably easy to create that environment when you are just a handful of people sitting in one room. Maintaining this culture as we grow, encouraging new team members to contribute to the culture and enable it to evolve is a challenge that must be continually addressed.
This is the first time we are publishing these outside of the management team. These are the internal values that we set ourselves when developing what Alyne is today. They are written quite informally, but I trust you will get the underlying meaning:
1. Don’t be an a**hole - it is a choice
2. Dream big - challenge the status quo
3. Get sh*t done
4. Know how to have fun - it’s all about people after all
5. Have strong opinions, but hold them weakly - know how things should be and fight for it but be very open to new or changing situations, information, viewpoints
6. Zero Assets - access is more important than possession
7. Location independence - everything should be able to be operated from the office, the road, the beach or the mountain top
8. Be curious about the future - embrace the new
9. Ownership - of tasks, problems and goals
10. Food is important - food for thoughts and stomach
These values have come to define how we work. We come from a culture of quite direct feedback, fast decisions and affinity for technology. As such we are very direct in the way we communicate. You will see this in passionate discussions in our teams. The important thing is that the discussion ends at the point where all positions were heard and a smart decision was made and this passion is kept purely professional - and not become a personal attack. Another very important value for me is "Be curious about the future - embrace the new". As soon as we become complacent, our edge against much larger enterprises fades. This extends to new ways of thinking, re-evaluating positions I may have had to date and embracing new technology as early adopters.
It may sound trivial, but working on cool equipment is something that is very important to us. We all love our gadgets and spent way too many years carrying around two phones, lugging the corporate laptop model of the year in our carry-ons and using clunky enterprise software. Using your device of choice and leveraging state of the art tools is something that is important for me personally - and hopefully a degree of freedom that our team enjoys, too. Lastly - we also love our coffee. We decided to invest in a really good coffee machine in our Munich office. Our team and our guests have not complained. As our colleague Cyrus likes to point out: He went from Barrister to Barista after joining Alyne.
We have very ambitious targets for the next weeks and months. I am not kidding myself - there is a tough path ahead. Recruiting the right team members is challenging. Sharing the knowledge we have in the team and learning from our new colleagues will take focus and method. Maintaining what is important to us in our culture while growing in multiple offices is not easy. I am certain the outcome of all these challenges will be incredibly rewarding: Building a globally leading RegTech team that changes the way businesses manage their risk.
What does our team say?
Enough from me - hear what our team has to say about working at Alyne and our new team members.
Do you have what it takes? Would you fit in with the Alyne team? Do you want to make a difference in a leading RegTech company and experience the dynamic of a rapidly growing business?
